Technology Review
A bridged network can provide excellent traffic management to reduce collisions and limit the amount of
bandwidth wasted with unnecessary transmissions. Transparent bridges working at Layer 2 (of the OSI Model)
forward packets on network segments only when it is necessary. The decision process involves only Layer 2
hardware addresses. Conversely, routers operate at Layer 3, using network addresses and route tables to
make packet forwarding decisions.
